Weekend Rewind

Henry and I had another great weekend with family and friends. Dad was out of town so we had another sleep over with the grandparents. My mom surprised me Sunday with a massage (facial last weekend and massage this past weekend...I could get used to this royal treatment!) My mom takes such good care of us...we are soooooo lucky!

Anyway, Saturday we had a play date with Auntie Brenda and the Colagrossi clan! Here are a few pics:

2 Months!

Today Henry is officially 2 months old! He is growing up so fast! We had his check up today which included his first round of shots. He had 1 oral vaccine and 3 injection vaccines in his thighs. I have been really anxious for this appointment as I hate getting shots and the idea of watching my little guy have to go through this just makes my skin crawl. However, I am really proud of both of us. I asked to hold him while they gave him his shots and was able to keep him soothed with sweet nothings and of course the number one accessory in his life - the pacifier! The first shot was given and he didn't even cry. But I think by the time they got to his other leg for his 2 other shots he knew what was up and gave a few screams. But really nothing like I thought it would be like and I was able to get him calm very quickly. I took the advice of other moms and gave him a dose of Baby Tylenol before we even left the docs office and so far he is in great spirits. He even took down 5 1/2 ounces of "boob in a bottle" when we got home and has been all smiles and a chatter box so far. I keep watching him waiting for the fussy spell to hit but so far so good! As for his stats he is literally growing so fast! Check these numbers out:

Height: 25 inches (97th percentile)
Weight: 12 lbs 3 oz (60%)
Head Size: 40.7 cm (70%)

We now switch to the every 2 month check up and don't go back until May. Which I am bummed about as I like the check in on his stats. Guess I will have to find a produce scale at Carpinito Brothers. :o)

Also, my good friend Ashley is in labor!! Henry and I can't wait to meet baby Westyn! We love you Ash!

Weekend Sleep Over

Henry and I had the most amazing weekend with nauna (my mom). Chris and my step-dad were headed out of town so we decided to pack up and stay the weekend in Seattle with nauna. However, Chris ended up sticking around as the lake he was suppose to fish at is still frozen but since we were so excited about the weekend with nauna he didn't mind too much that we still headed out. I think he enjoyed some alone time with his buddies too. Anyway, Friday was gorgeous out so we decided to test out the stroller and went for our first walk around Green Lake. After the walk we decided to press our luck and see how Henry would do at dinner in a restaurant. To my surprise he slept the entire time! There were several other newborns/toddlers at the restaurant and other moms were having to stand to rock their babies. My little guy was on his best behavior and let mom and nauna enjoy a beer and fish and chips. Such a treat. On Saturday morning my mom made me an appointment to get a facial, such a great surprise! I really feel blessed to have such a wonderful mom that Henry just adores too! She takes such good care of us both and I can't wait for our next sleep over. It was really hard to come home but we missed dad too! Chris definitely missed his family and thought Henry gained a few lbs while we were gone! We will find out Wednesday at his 2 month appointment. My guess is he is close to 12 lbs..such a big boy!

As I mentioned in my last post he is very interactive and smiley lately. It really feels like in the last four days he has turned a corner. Longer sleep cycles, more independent down time staring at his "friends" in the room, engaged in baby talk and lots of incredible smiles. He loves to walk around the house and look at everything. I spend a lot of time just walking around talking to him about everything in the room. I heard this can help their communication skills and well he seems to like it. Anyway, here are a few of our favorite pics from the weekend.

All Smiles Today

Today has been such a wonderful day. Henry and I have had lots of play time filled with talks, laughter and wonderful smiles (mom even made it to the gym this evening!) He is starting to not just be awake during the day but has also become playful. He even will lay by himself for a period of time staring out the window or at the ceiling. He really entertains himself quite well. I often wonder if there is some one else in the room or an imaginary friend I can't see as he gets going pretty good. Overall, sleep is still limited but he does great at night for the most part so I can't complain too much. Each week it seems to be getting better. I love that he is starting to be more interactive and loves to spend time chatting with his mom.

Here are a few pics that I was able to capture:

Ups and Downs

Today we had some ups and downs. I'll start with the "ups". This morning I decided to have Henry spend some tummy time on his Tummy Time Surfboard Mat. He absolutely hates tummy time at this point and I thought the stimulation of the colors/toys on the board would help. Nope...still hated it! Anyway, the mat has a very small tube like pillow at the top where you can place their head and arms over to help give an infant some help raising their head. I placed Henry on the mat and of course he started fussing and moving his legs all over try to get them under him. After that didn't work he figured out how to roll over to his right side on his back! I couldn't believe it. A 6 week old rolling over...I thought wow let's try that again. Sure enough I put him back on the mat and this time he rolled over to his left side on to his back. He did have a little help with the pillow but the fact he knew how to get over to his back was amazing. I was so excited and assured him that he is very advanced for his age! ;o) As any proud mama would do I called the grandmas and dad to fill them in on our little excitement for the day.

Anyway, soon after tummy time it was time for the late morning feed. Early in the morning he had spit up a couple times. I didn't think too much of it as he does spit up from time to time. However, after the late morning feed it got a lot worse. After he had spit up quite a lot for the 4th time I called my mom to talk it through. She convinced me to just call the doctor. I guess I was hesitant as I feel like they would just think I was a first time mom freaking out over a little spit up. However, while I was on the phone with her he spit up 2 more times. At this point the decision was made and I left a message for his doc. By the time the doc called (which was in record time!) he had spit up a couple more times. This wasn't just a little spit up this was projectile out all over him and me several times. Sometimes it was curd like and others just liquid. Yesterday he also had a major blow out in his diaper. I just thought he was a bit constipated and it finally was released. Since breastfed babies have loose stools anyway its hard to tell what is diarrhea and what is normal. But with the spit up/vomiting and now looking back at that diaper I knew something was up. The doc asked me to bring Henry in for a check up and sure enough they think he has a stomach bug. His poor stomach is gurgling so bad. You can feel it move up his back and hear it churn. Poor little guy...breaks my heart he feels this way! There isn't a whole lot you can do but change the diet a bit and let it pass. He doesn't have a fever and as long as he still has wet diapers we know he is getting the fluids needed. Basically I just have to do smaller more frequent feeds for a few days and switch to a soy based formula when supplementing the breastmilk. I guess when babies get stomach bugs the milk based formulas do not sit well. We also have to give him some Pedialyte to help keep him hydrated. At first he did not like the taste...who would since it's like cough syrup! But he eventually took down 2.5 oz. This evening he seems to be getting a bit better as the spit up is very minimal and he has now been sleeping for 3 hours. Of course I haven't taken that time to rest as I am just staring at him ready to jump at the slightest sign of anything abnormal. He is just way too little to feel so sick. I really hate it and it just breaks my heart. I totally understand now what moms feel like when they watch their babies go through illness. Anyway, keep our little guy in your thoughts that he will get back to his old self here quickly!

On another note, while we were at the doc office they weighed him and he is now 10 lbs 13.5 oz...getting so big!

Weekend Rewind

This past weekend we took our first family trip since Henry was born. It was Chris's good friend Travis Dix's wedding in Priest Lake, Idaho. Chris was a groomsmen so we packed up (which took me 2 days to prepare all of us) and drove over on Thursday morning. Henry did great in that we only had to stop in Ellensberg and Spokane before getting to Priest. Our Spokane stop was at the Broderick's to meet little Pierson Shaw who is 1 month older than Henry and oh so cute! That pit stop was so chaotic but well worth it to meet this little guy. The hour we were there I spent all my time feeding, pumping, changing and cleaning up spit up (a lot of it!). But, hey I got to see one of my best girl friends and kiss those gorgeous cheeks of Pierson's. Here are a couple pics of the play date:
After we left Spokane we checked in to our cabin at Hills Resort in Priest Lake. It was so nice and peaceful. There was no phone or tv in the cabins and literally I got to lay there and hear absolutely nothing but the crackle of the fire while Henry and I napped as dad was out playing with the boys. I can't remember the last time that I was in a place that quiet. No distant car noise, neighbors, dogs, nothing. So incredibly relaxing. Also, my mom and stepdad came over on Friday evening to help babysit Henry while Chris and I enjoyed the wedding festivities. I am so blessed to have such wonderful parents. They took such great care of our little guy (and us!). We had so much fun seeing everyone and introducing Henry. Most of our friends over there have children now so it was fun to have baby talk and learn a few tips to help us out. One in particular the Miracle Blanket, which I had not heard of and had overnighted to my house. Should be here tomorrow! Stay tuned on progress...

Perfect Day (Bday and Baby Stats)

Today is my bday and it has been the most perfect day. I truly have not felt this incredibly special and lucky in a long time. So many friends and family have reached out to wish me a happy bday. I truly feel so lucky to have so many wonderful people in my life. Thank you to all of you..I love you so very much.

I started my morning off with the most perfect cuddle time with little Henry. He and I had a rough 5am - 7am session and final dozed off together in bed side by side, forehead to forehead. I know he should be in his own bed but you take sleep where you can get it and he really loves his mama. And, honestly the best bday present ever is to wake up and smell the most perfect scent in the world...your baby's breathe. Chris said this evening that he didn't want to wake me to say goodbye this morning as we looked so perfectly comfortable together. I just cant put in words how much I love my family. I could cuddle with both my boys all day long!

Anyway, moving on as I could talk about my love for my family for ages....so the next stop was to spend all morning at the spa. My mother-in-law babysat Henry and I headed out for a massage, mani and pedi. So relaxing! But, the funny thing is as I was laying there for my massage I was trying to unwind and picture something relaxing but all I could think of was Henry and how much I missed him. I seriously can't get enough of the little guy!

After my morning of pampering we had Henry's check up. He is doing perfect and is gaining an average of 1.5 ounces per day! So all the worry of whether he is getting enough milk is out the window as he is getting more than enough! Most babies his age gain about 1 ounce per day. We are so happy he is doing so great!

Here are his stats:

Height: 23" (90th percentile - gonna be a tall one!)
Weight: 10 lbs 2.5 oz (55%)
Head Circ: 38.8 cm (60%)

And, to top things off my wonderful husband cooked me the most delicious dinner....bacon wrapped filet mignon, scalloped potatoes, salad and tiramisu for dessert. To top it all off we enjoyed a wonderful bottle of red wine from our good friend John. He sent it up from San Fran and it was fantastic! We still have some left so will be able to enjoy it with dinner tomorrow too!

Anyway, I just want to say thank you to everyone for the bday wishes and for making me feel so special. I truly feel like the luckiest girl in the world. I can't wait to see what this year brings and to share it with you all.

My favorite toes...so kissable!
